Battersea Power Station

Technics, appointed by ABA Engineering Ltd, has completed a 3D laser scanning survey on two disused tunnels at Battersea Power Station.

The surveys identified the location and depth of the redundant tunnels, previously used for housing electrical cables, in relation to the neighbouring tube network and highlighted the possibility of using them within the wider scheme.

TBattersea2echnicsโ€™ specialist confined spaceย surveyย team undertook the surveys using laser scanner technology to access the restricted points of the tunnels, one reaching almost 24 metres deep, and ascertain the depth and position of each tunnel.

Dave Fone, Senior Manager at ABA Engineering, said: โ€œThe limited access to the tunnels presented challenges to the team from the outset. However, Technicsโ€™ experienced team was able to provide comprehensive results which have enabled our client to make important decisions around the usage of these tunnels and help identify their role in the overall scheme.โ€

Andy Overington, Project Manager of Technics, said: โ€œDespite the challenges of restricted access and confined space we were able to provide our client with the results they needed to take the project forward.โ€
