Technics Careers – Connor Charles

Technics has a reputable training programme which aligns with our culture of continuous improvement. We recently sat down with Connor Charles following his first 3 months of working with Technics. Connor joined Technics at the end of September 2023. His current role is as an assistant Vacuum Excavation and Utility Surveyor in the Wakefield office.

Connor, congratulations on passing your probationary period with Technics. How would you describe your first 3 months with us?

“I have had an enriching and enjoyable experience working at Technics so far. I appreciate the support and encouragement I have received while learning at my own pace during the early stages of my Technics career. Everyone I’ve worked with has been kind, welcoming, and easy to collaborate with. I believe I have quickly acquired new skills and developed them at a fast-paced thanks to James G’s confidence in allowing me to tackle the work, which has contributed to building a solid set of skills in my short time here.”

What has been the biggest surprise?

“When I first joined Technics, I was pleasantly surprised to find that despite the fast pace of the work and technical details, everyone I worked with took the time to explain the steps of the job and answer any questions.”

“At this early stage, I have been given significant responsibility and trust to complete certain tasks. I find it enjoyable to dive right in and learn new skills through hands-on experience.”

What were you doing before you joined Technics?

“I worked as a part-time lifeguard while studying at University until my graduation with a BSc in Geography in May 2023.”

What is the next target in your career development plan?

“My next goal is to finish my NRSWA Street Works course and also pursue Level 3 surveyor certification in the future. As a person, I strive to be the best I can be in my job, so obtaining more qualifications as part of the Technics training programme will only enhance my abilities further.”

What would you say to anyone considering a career with Technics?

“Go for it! You will be surrounded by helpful, supportive and kind people who are very skilled at their respective jobs.”

We take great pride in developing our staff and watching their careers grow. If you would like to be part of the Technics training and development plan, please visit our careers page.
