St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey

Plans to redevelop several emergency care wards at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey, will advance after Technics successfully carried out a series of surveys including topographical, laser scanning and, utility mapping, all delivered in Revit.

Technics was commissioned by Kier Group for the project last year to facilitate the ambitious upgrade and renovation plans at the hospital, which currently has facilities for around 400 beds and a wide range of acute care services.

The hospital remained fully operational during the survey work, with surveyors working closely with the client and other stakeholders to keep disruption to a minimum throughout.

James Regan, Project Manager at Technics, said the team went to great lengths to ensure all hospital services were able to continue normally. To facilitate this, we conducted a pre-planning site visit well in advance to determine the most efficient methodology, working around patients and staff both day and night, and regular liaison with all parties involved in the project.

James said: “The challenges of the project included the management of the multiple surveys we carried out, which included topographical, laser scanning, utility surveys, and Geotechnical, CCTV & Revit modelling.”

“Having this volume of data at the design stage helps to increase the efficiency of the development process, therefore saving time and costs. Our experience highlights the importance of the right level of communication between all stakeholders throughout the duration of the project, especially given the high sensitivity of the environment.”

He added: “Also pivotal to this project was ensuring the greatest amount of flexibility and transparency. In this type of project, you need to be prepared for the unexpected, which can occur with little warning.”

“We were pleased with how we managed the project smoothly, on time and to budget, which is in large part thanks to the strong communication we maintained throughout and updating all parties on an ongoing basis.”
