Case Study: Princes Wharf, London, UK
Client: Coin Street
Services: Revit, laser scanning, point cloud capture
Location: London, UK
Project summary & client purpose:
Technics was commissioned to capture high-resolution geospatial data at Princes Wharf, London, to support Coin Street in a vision-setting project for the future of this prominent riverside location. The purpose of the commission was to provide an accurate, reliable spatial foundation that would enable architects and designers to explore new ideas with confidence, supporting early-stage decision-making and long-term planning.
Our services:
We delivered high-resolution geospatial surveying services, capturing precise point cloud data across the Princes Wharf site, which was then developed into a Revit model. The data was processed and shared with multiple architectural practices, providing a trusted, consistent baseline to inform concept design, feasibility studies, and future development scenarios.
The challenges:
As a complex urban riverside site, Princes Wharf presents a range of spatial constraints that can significantly influence design outcomes. To support meaningful and creative proposals, architects required highly accurate, dependable data that clearly represented existing conditions. The challenge was to deliver survey information that was both technically robust and easily usable by a wide range of design teams.
Results:
The geospatial data delivered by Technics gave architects and decision-makers a clear understanding of the siteβs potential and limitations. This enabled more informed, creative and sustainable design proposals, ranging from new build concepts to retrofit opportunities. By providing precise spatial insight at an early stage, Technics helped unlock confident, forward-thinking visions for the future of Princes Wharf. Client testimonial:
βTechnicsβ Revit model allowed our design team to quickly and clearly understand a complex old warehouse and to present optional design choices to Coin Street Community Builders as client. Everything – from optimal fire escape routes to alternative potential uses – was explored in a feasibility study that could not have been done in such a short time had we not previously commissioned the Technics survey. The architect and engineers praised the quality of the information provided by the model which allowed a range of approaches to be tested and costed and facilitated the creation of CGIs illustrating to us as client the potential of the building.β
