Technics Careers – Joseph and Kobee

We are delighted to introduce the newest members of our Ground Investigation team, Joseph Raven and Kobee Fawkes. We asked them for their feedback following their first 3 months at Technics.

How would you describe your first 3 months with Technics?

Kobee: My first three months at Technics have been great, everyone has been so welcoming, and it has made my onboarding time very enjoyable.

Joseph: My first three months have been a blast, just recently having a department social I have come to feel a real connection with my team and the company; work is a mix of challenge and reward and so great for learning but with ample breaks too as to not be overwhelming, a strong balance.

What was your biggest challenge during your probation period and how did you overcome it?

Kobee: I think my biggest challenge has been adjusting to working with a new team and understanding their processes. Overcoming this just took time and help from my new team which they were more than happy to provide.

Joseph: My biggest challenge was within myself, I had struggled to feel incorporated into previous workplaces and naturally, I was distrusting of certain procedures. Technics allowed me a space to feel the way I felt and develop trust in my own space, because of that I feel I have come to work stronger and to this day the process goes on, 1% at a time.

What has been the biggest surprise?

Kobee: The biggest surprise I found was the freedom and trust to self-manage your work and how well it worked to manage your workload and time.

Joseph: The biggest surprise has been the openness and practicality of management and procedure, reasonable adjustments are made and people are listened to! Compromise isn’t a dirty word, and it helps everyone get along and come to work ready, not resentful. Everyone is friendly, it’s just good.

What were you doing before you joined Technics?

Kobee: Before Technics I was working a similar job which meant I was already familiar with the basics of what was required from me.

Joseph: Before Technics, I was working in a similar role at a previous company, in general, the work was similar, but I am glad to say I am more involved in my progression now and happier at work.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their probation period?

Kobee: I would say to just enjoy the time and don’t stress about being perfect as this time is about learning how to do the job. Expect to make mistakes and turn them into a learning experience.

Joseph: Every new start is difficult and just like a kid growing up you may want to be an adult straight away, but we all grow into our boots in time! Maybe that’s too many analogies but the point is, take each day by day and people will always give you the help you need and before you know it you are (unfortunately) an adult!

What would you say to anyone considering a career with Technics?

Kobee: I would say Technics is a wonderful environment to work in, there’s a great team and everyone makes you feel so welcome.

Joseph: Every company has its way of operating and nothing is a catch-all procedure, however, for what I would hope is the great majority of good people, Technics looks out for its values, and that can’t be understated in a world where we all very often forget them.  TLDR: It’s friendly, it’s rewarding, and the office has good air-con!
