Technics Group solutions run deep

utility mapping equipmentTechnics Group is pleased to announce a unique technique which can determine, at surface, the position and depth of below ground water bearing pipelines from 2m to 25m deep in most ground conditions. Recent developments and testing have shown that the technique delivers accuracy levels of Β± 0.3m either side of the centreline of the pipe.

Historically, the depth limitation of Ground Penetrating testing has prevented Utility Surveyors from offering a comprehensive below ground pipeline location service. The precision of the survey becomes more and more in doubt as the depth increases beyond two metres.

Most water companies are very cautious when it comes to development close to their assets. Positional records are inevitably found to be incorrect therefore proposed construction developments are often compromised by the water company’s restrictive development easements around unverified pipeline locations. The detection methodology pioneered by our partner Arrow Geophysics removes the uncertainty surrounding the location of the pipeline thus releasing or reducing building restrictions.

Recently the new technology was successfully employed on site in Catford, London. The results de-sterilised a large section of a Barratt development site adding considerable land value. Thames Water has fully approved the system and our results on the Catford project, which established the location of a pipeline 14 metres deep. Subsequently, the system has located an 8m deep culvert beneath a site in Wiltshire and enquiries are now being received from our clients who have similar issues to resolve.
