London Mapping Festival Launch

Last night saw the launch of the London Mapping Festival in Covent Garden. The London Mapping Festival (LMF) 2011 – 2012 is an 18 month programme of activities designed to promote the unique range of mapping, innovative technologies and applications that exist for the Capital. The festival will showcase all mapping-related disciplines including cartography, surveying, GIS, GPS and remote sensing.

The activities are organised by LMF supporters (both commercial and non-commercial organisations) and combine existing events with new specially organised ones to provide something for everyone. These will include workshops for schools, public lectures, professional conferences and mass participation activities.

Technics Group Managing Director Graham Mills attended the launch event in his capacity as President of The Survey Association. He was joined by Rory Stanbridge TSA’s Secretary General, Rory is spearheading TSA’s involvement with LMF and is organising TSA’s festival event.

The launch included an entertaining talk by Simon Calder the Senior Travel Editor of the Independent, TV & Radio Broadcaster. This was followed by a talk by Nigel Woof the Chief Executive of MapAction who are the LMF’s chosen charity.
