Prof. Stig Enemark – President of the International Federation of Surveyors, attended the Geo-Siberia 2009, held from the 21st – 23rd April 2009. This conference is the Fifth International Exhibition and Scientific Congress held in Novosibirsk – Russia and was organised by Alexander Karpik, the Rector of the Siberian State Academy of Geodesy.

The principal purpose of “Geo-Siberia-2009” is to enable participants to get acquainted with the latest advances in surveying. The latest methods and technologies are on show; efficient environmental management and regional investment projects can be seen; and there’s an opportunity to analyse actual geodesy data taken from this sector of the economy.

World famous companies including Leica Geosystems AG (Switzerland), supported and participated in the “GEO-Siberia-2009″ exhibition-congress. Now annually, at the end of April the widest range of geo-industry experts from different cities in Russia have an opportunity to exchange information and experience, get acquainted with the newest equipment, methods and technologies.

The event attracted over 1,400 participants from more than 120 organisations and companies from 15 countries. In his opening speech President Enemark said;

“Geo-Siberia has in less than five years grown to become an important platform to demonstrate the latest achievements in technology and methods in surveying and GIS management. By combining a large scale exhibition with an international conference Geo-Serbia gives an excellent opportunity for professionals in Siberia, in Russia, the Central Asian Region and from overseas to discuss issues that are essential to not only the professionals but to society as a whole”.
